My b-i-l installed Outlook along with Office and after doing so decided to uninstall it and use Outlook Express. Now he can't change the default font for new messages. He can highlight the text and change it after typing but the default font stays at Abadi 8 pt. even after trying to change it in options multiple times. I think Outlook took something with it that OE needs to make and stablize the change. Any ideas sort of reinstalling Outlook?

Did you check to see if Outlook Express is the default email program on the Program tab in Internet Options. Also you could try to repair Outlook Express.

I would suggest a Repair of IE/OE, but you don't mention which OS the computer is running.

    Edit - Whiskeyman - Snap :)

I've already sent him the link with info on repairing OE but don't think he's tried it yet. That was my first idea. I really think Outlook took a reg key or dll that OE needs. He's running Win XP. Thanks for responding and if you think of any other possible fixes I'd love to hear them!

    Default Font in Outlook Express

For some time now I have been unable to change the depault font in OE even though I have followed the correct procedure - TOOLS, OPTIONS, COMPOSE, APPLY. The font I have chosen is shown in COMPOSE, BUT when I open a new message, the font seems to be stuck on Arial 10. I am able to change the font and color only in individual messages. Can anyone help please?

I still think doing a repair on OE should solve the problem but my b-i-l is too darn lazy to bother with it and I'm too far away to go do it myself. He has decided to do the "three lousy clicks" and change the font in each email. This has not made his wife happy but she doesn't feel confident enough to do the repair herself. Why am I telling you all of this? Because I STILL think the repair will fix the problem if I can just get someone to try it! See the link in PeteC's post for the instructions and please let us know if it works!

Sorry I can't be more help!

LOL, reminds me of the old saying, "you can lead a horse to water but you can't force him to drink ". Good luck. :)

I had the same problem. Before you try any reinstalling, I suggest you try the following. It worked for me...

"Go to Internet Options from Control Panel and click the Accessibility button on the General tab.

Uncheck the three check boxes labeled Ignore colors specified on Web pages, Ignore font styles specified on Web pages, and Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages.

Click ok, click ok again, and then restart Outlook Express. You should now be able to access all formatting features for rich text messages "

You can always go back to plan A if it doesn't work...best of luck!

Thanks for the suggestion but I had him check that first and all were unchecked. I also had him check them, apply and then go back and uncheck them thinking maybe it was "stuck ". In my b-i-l's case it didn't work. Maybe it will for HaroldM. I hope so, it's easier than repairing OE!
