    Here's a new one kiddies.
I wiped the hd and grabbed all the outlook mail in .dbx format. I have since got all the files, inbox, deleted, sent, etc, onto the desktop but my problem is that while the files are there and they have substance, ie big file size, i can not get oe6 to import nor can I get any program to at least open them so I can use the data. I have seen that Fox Pro or something like that can read them to the tune 269.95 for the prog, yaaaaaa okkkkkkkk, hmmmmm, just to read some old emaillllll, oookkkkkkkkk.
I would be perfectly happy if I could just access the mails in any format....
I just want the info, don't care about the way it's presented.

    SEND HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

And in advance, thanks for anything anyone can give !

tmaan - Welcome to the Board :)

    Two possibilities ....

Copy/move the .dbx files off the desktop to a folder on your hard drive and try again.

If this fails try DBXtract - will cost you $5, but surely worth the risk?

Do you get an error message when you try to import them?

If these are files that you burned to a cd, they probably have the read only attribute set. I don't believe OE will allow you to import them this way. Right click on on of the files, choose properties and see if the box next to read only is checked. If so, uncheck it and then do this for each of the dbx files. Then try importing them.

tmaan--After checking whether the files are not Read-Only, put the .dbx files into your Store Folder. In OE click Tools|Options|Maintenance tab|Store Folder to find the location of the Store Folder.

P.S. I assume you are talking about Outlook Express here. Outlook does not use .dbx files.

Assuming that all of the dbx files are the standard ones (inbox, outbox, sent items, etc. ) copying them into OE's store folder will work. If however, any of the dbx files are from folders that you made in the old OE, they won't show up in OE by just copying them into the store folder. You have to first make a folder in OE with the same name, close OE, and then in windows explorer delete the new dbx file that was created when you made the folder in OE. Then copy the other folders into OE's store folder. Once you've done this, they should show up in OE with messages in tact.

    Zander--tmaan has told us
Would not he be asked, when he tried to move the old .dbx files to the Store Folder, if he wanted to replace those already there?

Yes, I suppose he would get a prompt. I guess I just come from the old school. :D Either way will work as long as you have a folder in OE that matches the names of the ones you're moving in.
