I use Windows 98 with OE6, is there a simple way to set up an auto response to inbound email?

I just want people to know that their email was received and to expect a response from me when I can get to it.

I've searched for answers from Microsoft to no avail.

    Thanks for any help!
    Pete

    Hi LittleTigerNH
    Welcome to the boards.
I'm using Outlook Express 6. I just tried this..and it worked:
    Open Outlook Express:
    Click on COMPOSE MESSAGE.

Scroll down past To:, CC:, BCC:, and Subject: where you're ready to type your text message.

Type in your auto responder message that you want everyone to receive when you're away.

Click on FILE, then SAVE AS.

Go to SAVE IN: (Scroll down to where you want your auto responder saved for easy access…I recommend your desktop or my documents).

Type in a File Name & make sure you save it as type: Mail (*.eml).

    Now go up to tools........
Message rules..........Mail........then Under the mail rules tab:
    Click new
Scroll down the top box to the line that says :all messages
Put a check mark in it.
Under the 2nd box......put a check mark beside:
    Reply with message
On the third box.......click on the underlined word "message "
and navigate to that email message you just saved.

Tools - Message Rules - Mail:

"Where the to line contains people" (you!)

"Reply with message" (whatever you wish)

You'll probably wish to set up some exclusions for newsletters, etc.

    Thank you for your replies!

I'm testing it for someone I'm doing some work for and I couldn't figure it out... now it seems like child's play... DARN! those children!

The only thing I'm worried about is that he's setup with HTTP email grabbing from msn.com

    Oh well, thanks anyway!
    Pete

Have they got it configured through Outlook Express?
Did you make it work then?

I haven't had a chance to set it up for them, but it worked on my system... though I didn't use an http address, I used a pop3 account.

    Thanks,
    Pete
