Outlook will not allow me to receive any emails however it appears to be sending them.
It will not allow me to delete or move any emails or files and keeps telling me The message interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists restart outlook.
I have attempted to restart it numerous times but it does nt fix the problem.
    Any clues????

I've downloaded the service pack but not entirely sure what I should be doing next as not only is the problem still present but it now includes the other email address connected with my outlook (same outlook just have 2 addresses on it.)

Ok, before we continue can you confirm which version of outlook you are using (Help->About)

Good, just confirming that thanks :)

You say you downloaded the service pack, how did you do this, using MS Update or dowloading via your browser?

If you downloaded it yourself you still need to install it.

I followed the links as stated and it downloaded and as far as I'm aware installed itself.
How would I find it to run it?

    p.s Downloaded through the browser

Probably best to use MS or Office Update...

Follow How to obtain the latest Office XP service pack, I'd step you through it but unfortunately I don't use Outlook nor Office and the site picks up on this and offers me different options.

I'm certain though your issue is related to this, perhaps another Outlook 2002 user can step in here?

I've found a way to delete some of the messages (shift > del) and almost thought I'd done it but no joy.

Everytime I've googles the error message it says I'm using all the storage for otulook but haven't been able to delete anything till now.

ANd now I've deleted quite a significant amount of important data it still wont work.

    Am at my wits end!!!!

Make sure your DELTED ITEMS folder is empty.

You should copy your PST file that holds all of the mail and contacts and then Compact the file... Right click on your Personal Folder option - select Properties and then look for the Compact/Compress option.

Lol, yeah, thing is while waiting for hours for some help it turns out am not as beginner as I thought. Found a way around the inability to delete then simply rebooted the system and made outlook issue test messages to both accounts and Voila!!

Thank you guys all so much for your help and in the event of another panic I will be back but just for now, with no tech knowledge at all I've just about managed, lol.

    Thanks guys
