    Hi all,

I have recently upgraded to Windows XP professional and Office XP professional and I am using Outlook 2002 as my mail client. I use rules to separate incoming emails to appropriate folders.

The problem is that after a rule has run the folder that the new email has been moved to is no longer bold. The only way I can tell where new emails have been moved to is by doing an advanced search etc.

Is there a setting that turns this feature on?

If an email is received that is not moved using a rule it is shown bold as expected in the inbox.

    Regards FarmerJo

You really like these brain teasers don't you? I'm just posting simply to pop your message back up to the top for one of the other members to take a gander at. In the meanwhile..I'll go see if I can ferret out an answer for you. :(

That too has stopped working since I upgraded. I'd completely forgotten about the number that used to appear next to the folder in which the new email was moved too. Perhaps there is a switch to enable it which might also kick off the bold thing too!

I have also managed to solve my synchronisation and backup problem having followed your previous link. I downloaded many programs and ended up choosing an excellant shareware application called SmartSync Pro. It does just about everything including making the tea!

Ahhhhhh stick with us FarmerJo, you'll either get your problem solved, or we'll confuse you until you forget what you asked! :p :D

Now...about that Outlook thingy. (Very highly technical term...please don't ask me to explain it.)
What about using the repair Feature? That ought to be worth a shot? Surely can't hurt? And have you got all your updates done for Office?

    LookOut its Outlook

Not that I'm trying to rain on this parade... But Outlook and its freebie lightweight cousin Outlook express have been the cause of more virus distribution than any other software.

It sometimes makes changes on it own, or otherwise misbehaves.

I will use it in a corporate enviroment where if a NEW virus slips through the A/V which is updated every 8 hours, I loose other peoples data, not mine.

For my own stuff I use "The Bat" - there has been only one virus to ever get loose with "the bat ".

If I want to fight a custom config I'll fire up Excel, email should be easy.

Hi Prof. Gotta take a wee bit of exception to your "But Outlook and its freebie lightweight cousin Outlook express have been the cause of more virus distribution than any other software. "

They (outlook/OE) have certainly been the vehicle but the bozos who code the viri have been the cause and the poor sods who run without good AV protection have helped their distribution scheme quite a bit.

FarmerJo - I think one problem with the lack of solid responses here may be the small number of folks who 1) have switched to OfficeXP and 2) do a lot of solution posting.

I know I am still back in the stone age with Office2K and I think your quirk must be version related as I have never seen it before and I help support lots of systems with Office9x to 2K.

We started using Outlook 2002 here a few months ago and I've set up a few people with rules to move emails automatically with no problem. The folder shows how many unread messages there are in it.

I think Daizy hit it when she suggested running the repair feature.
