Outlook intermittently doesn't appear to start. Looking in Task Manager indicates a copy already active (~30MB) and another copy with only a couple of MB. Ending the larger one will launch outlook request.

Not a big deal but irritating.

Have not seen this with any other programs.

Did not have this experience before XP.

Hmmm. Glad someone bumped this one back to the top.

    What version of MS Office?

Have you tried doing a general system cleanup?
    • Open your browser, click on tools~internet options, and delete all temp internet files, cookies, and history.
    • Open My Computer~right-click on your C: drive and left-click properties and do a Disk Cleanup. Let it remove all the items it offers. May take a while if this is the first time or if you haven't done it recently.
    • Click start~run then type in cmd and OK. When the command window opens, type in chkdsk /f and enter. When you are told it can't be done now, answer Y(es) to doing it at next reboot then reboot.
    • Right-click My Computer, left-click Manage and defragment the drive(s).
Have you checked your event logs for errors/warnings that look related?

Have you removed spyware (Ad-aware, Spybot, similar syyware/malware removal apps)?

Is Outlook listed in msconfig as a startup item? How about MS Office? If they are, how about removing the check mark so neither will run at startup.

Thanks for the reply. Running Office 2000 under Win XP. Keep the sytem very clean. Norton Internet Firewall and anti virus. Virus scans weekly. Broadband connection through router. Minimal startup programs enabled that I can tell. Used RegRun to manage startup activity. No indication of spyware running.

Almost like it is running in background...receives emails, etc. Have read about viruses that take over Outlook and doesn't leave footprints...have not detected via Norton.

I didn't experience this before Win XP. Strange.
