Outlook creates unnecessary Contacts

I am learning my way with Outlook 2003, having switched from years with Eudora. Can someone help me with this: For some reason Outlook is creating new contacts that I don't need. For example, I have a Contacts listing for my friend John Smith, complete with numbers, addresses, etc. I just checked in "Contacts" for John's Smith's listing and it's there -- but so is a separate Contact for "John Smith mobile ", and another one for "John Smith home phone ", and another one for "John Smith email address ". Each of these newly-created Contacts includes just one data entry -- mobile number, or email address, etc. And that same data still resides properly in the original, complete John Smith Contact.

How did this happen? What button have I failed to push? This is especially aggravating when I synch with my cell phone and end up with so many unnecessary numbers in its memory.

    TIA

Did you manually add these contacts or were they imported?

If imported, you'll probably have to manually fix it.

Thanks for taking the time, Steve.

In the meantime I have figured out my problem. (In answer to your question, the contacts were all imported but I imported only one contact per person. These additional, single-line contacts have all been created since then.) The problem was that I didn't have my accounts set up properly.

I think that's taken care of now.
