Hi everyone. I've switched from Outlook Express to Outlook some years ago now. I don't know why there was no trouble before but now, after reinstalling Outlook several times, everytime I try to send an email, computer cannot come up with the recipient's email address. I have his name and everything in the Contacts folder. How do you make Outlook search 'Contacts' instead of the 'Outlook Address Book' for the email address?

    Many thanks for answering.

    Hi Alan6.

This is a fairly simple thing to do but one where I'd need to look at the specific windows to give you a how-to. Unfortunately, Exchange Server causes things to behave differently and I'm at work now so can't see how a 'normal' Outlook system appears.

I'll try to remember to check when I get home and if no one has answered you, to post the solution but I may forget so if you don't have an answer by about 0100 Saturday EST, please send me a PM reminder. Do include a link to this thread.

    I think I got it

    Dear Newt,

Thanks for considering my problem. I have tried exporting the contacts and giving it another file name. Now when I type in a email recipient's name, Outlook seems to be able to associate it with a few email addresses. I think this is the answer to my problem.

If U don't mind, would U be kind enough to tell me where the email attachments are kept in my pc and how I can put all the attachments of my emails into one folder?

    Many thanks again.

Helps if you mention which version of Outlook you are using.

Outlook stores everything in .pst files including you attachments here for Win2k & XP:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

I always unattach the files and place em in the folder of my choice.

Another thing to check is that the contact folder has the "Outlook Address Book" option: "Show this folder as an e-mail address book" ticked in its properties (Outlook 2000).
