I have been using OE for several years and, since I have installed Office XP, I want to check out Outlook. It is installed and the ISP mail server is installed.
However, I cannot get any mail when I hit Send/Receive. No error message and I checked to be sure there were no filters set up.

Assuming that in addition to the mail server being set up, your email account is also set up correctly in Outlook and that you have OE turned off, it certainly should be picking up your mail.

Try sending yourself a post and see what happens.

    Hi tenbob!

When You start and configure Outlook the first time, it should set itself as the standard E-mail program.

On the start menu, Outlook should appear and not Outlook Express.

If not, in Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Programs > E-mail, change to Outlook.

In Outlook Express > Tools > General, check at the bottom that OE is not set as standard program for E-mail.

Very Odd. In both cases, things are set for Outlook: in IE and also in OE, it says it is NOT the default.\

When I try to close Outlook, it says there are still messages in the outbox, do I still want to exit.

I cant see any outbox icon to check the outbox.

I don´t use Outlook but when I start it, I have to the right in the panel a Message header with Inbox, Drafts and Outbox underneath.

Above there is a "Customize Outlook" button. Click it and choose "Messages / Display Folders" and check the correct boxes.

Also in Internet Options make sure Outlook is the newsreader, email, calendar and contact list. Don't make OE anything in there. If you want to move your mail use import . Switching back and forth between them just confuses Windows.

    tenbob,
sorry for the delay ...... ...... I haven´t noticed Your question until now.

It seems like when I leave the Windows BBS and click "Mark All Forums Read" it can happen that I accidentally mark a forum with a fresh unread post.

I have the version of Outlook which is in the Office XP pro suite.

    Christer

    Edited:

Checked the version to be Microsoft Outlook 2002 (10.4712.4219) SP-2

    Edited again:

About "Message header ", well, it can be a language confusion. I have three columns containing, from the left to the right, Calendar, Tasks and Messages.

Below the head line "Messages ", I have a number of folders. These can be selected by clicking the "customize" button which is positioned above the "Message" head line.

Finally found the Outbox by In View, deselecting Outlook Bar and selecting Folder view

It shows a message that I wrote but did not get sent. I tried to Send/Receive but did not send or receive. Altho I have Outllook Express marked as NOT default, I am still receiving and sendint thru there

What exactly do you mean? It might prove helpful if you enable logging, attempt to send a message and then post the contents of the log file.

What I meant was the Outlook is installed and I have set the mail and news settings (mail.optonline.net and news.optonline.net)

I set the logging but where is that log file kept so that I can include it here?

    tenbob,

I can get that too, in a separate panel to the left but since You cant get what I´ve got to the right, I believe that we are comparing different versions.
