I stole this from an old post, but it is my problem exactly. There did not seem to be a solution posted so I thought I would try again.

Normally, when you click on an email from a particular person, then sort by "From," the sorted list will have the same email selected. So if you click on an email from Jane Doe, then sort by From, you can see all the emails by Jane Doe grouped together.

On my Inbox, when you choose an email and then sort by From, the selection jumps to the top (so now for example an email by John Anderson would be selected. You get the idea). The desired emails are lost off the bottom of the page and the user has to scroll to get to them.

Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas on how to fix it?

You'll have to explain this... I'm not sure what you mean.

In the Home tab, message list, the list is typically sorted by one of the displayed fields. Normally I sort by date. If you click on an email in the list, then click on one if the field bars the field I selected becomes the field that the emails are sorted by (either ascending or descending depending on the up or down arrow in the field bar) with the currently selected email still displayed. For example, I have the emails sorted by "date ". If I click on an email from John Doe, then click on the "from" field bar at the top, the emails are sorted by the "from" field with the record I clicked on at the beginning still displayed. So, the email from John Doe is displayed with the emails sorted by the names in the "from" field. I can then search through the emails from John Doe. That's the way it normally works on all of my computers except one which intermittently does something else.

This is what happens. I have the emails sorted by date, click on the email from John Doe, then click on the "from" field, the emails sort by the from field, but the current record becomes the first or last name in the sort. For example the current record now points to either a name that begins with A and the record for say Bill America becomes the current record. Now to find my original record, I have to scroll through all of my emails to get back to John Doe.

After it does this once, it typically will go back to working correctly and maintain John Doe as the current record when I change the sort field. Then some time later (even in the same session) it doesn't function normally.

    Thanks for asking.

Sorry, never seen this before, and since it is an intermittent problem I think it'll be hard to find a solution. You could try to repair Outlook, but if it would fix it?
