I am switching over from Outlook Express to Outlook 2010. In OE, I could click on an email folder, then click View, and then change the current view to hide read messages. How do I do this in Outlook 2010?

I don't have OL2010, but if it is the same as OL2007: View > Current View > Unread Messages in This Folder.

Outlook 2010 is somewhat different ......

Click on the ? Help button > type 'unread messages' into the search box. The second hit is applicable - 'View only unread messages'.

    Follow the instructions there.

Disclaimer :) - I have 2010 on the laptop, but use 2007 on a daily basis on my desktop - so I am no expert on 2010.

Click "view" then "View settings" then "filter ", then "more choices ". Click the check box for "only items with: ", and then change it to "Read ", or "unread ", and click "OK ". This is the only way I have found so far.

Clearly that method works, but the pointer I gave to the Help file seems much simpler ....

In the Navigation pane click on Inbox to open it

On the Home tab, in the Find group, click Filter E-mail and then on Unread.

Pete this method works great to set the filter so that it shows only unread messages. I can't figure out how to get it to show the read messages again. I used this method in OE when I was deleteing old messages from other folders. I would mark them all as "unread ", and then delete them. I would then go to my "deleted" folder, and click "view ", "current view ", and "unread ". This would show me the emails that I wanted to delete. I would then click "view ", "current view" and "show all messages ", and i was back to where I started. I can't seem to find a simple 3 click method to go from "unread" to "show all messages" in Outlook 2010.

    OK - I found this method .....

Click on the magnifying glass at the end of the Search box

Search Tools opens in the Ribbon

    Click on Unread

To return to all messages click on Close Search
