Outlook 2007 'x' delete button shaded

    I'm having an issue where if you open Outlook 2007 and once it loads everything, on the toolbar all icons are active except for the delete "X" icon. its shadded in gray. You need to double click any email then close it for the icon to become active.
    any ideas.

    running Outlook 2007 on a Pop3 enviornment.

    Even if you click one mail one time to highlight it - its still grayed??

    What happens if you try to drag an email to the Deleted Items folder;)
