The default behaviour of Outlook is to prevent automatic download of pictures embedded in messages for security reasons.

When previewing a message, a banner appears that indictes "Click here to download pictures" at which point embedded pictures are downloaded.

The above is for background, no issues with this. The question/problem comes with the following: once I download pictures, then move the message to a folder, when I come back to view that message, the pictures are re-downloaded. I have confirmed by looking at network traffic that when I view a previously download message, the web site gets contacted again for re-download.

This behavior seems different than Outlook 2003, which I previously used, and presents serious security issues. Just because I agreed to download the images once doesn't mean I want someone to be notified every time I view the message.

I have looked at the Microsoft support pages and the closest thing I could find to this is a note to the contrary that downloaded images will be saved, but this doesn't seem to be happening.

Does anyone know how to turn off this behavior and have the images downloaded saved so that they are not re-downloaded? Thanks,

    SteveMel

Found this by typing in "˜pictures in e-mail’ in outlook help.
Tools-Trust Center "“ Automatic download > check/uncheck options you want.

Is your Help set to search online for help?
    Privacy options in Trust Center
    ;)

Nope, this does not address my question, please the message read carefully.

(In automatic download all options are checked, preventing download initially, etc.; my question has to do with subsequent actions after a manual download.)
