Outlook has stopped automatically checking for mail. My setting has always been to check for new mail every 1 min. However, now I have to click on the "send/receive" button in the toolbar to get new mail :(. So far I have tried "repair" and reinstall (without removing) Outlook (2007). This problem has been going on for several months now and I cannot remember doing any changes except installing/removing programs.
    What could be the problem?

Are you using Eset's NOD32 anti-virus by chance?

In Outlook, click Tools > Options > Mail Setup tab > Send/Receive... button > and then see if your settings are the same as in the attachment below.

    Thanks, SpywareDr.
No the settings were not the same - I had ticked off the last box in both the online and offline settings.
I changed them and now it appears to retrieve messages as scheduled!

I thought this problem was resolved because I saw that the send/receive notice started appearing in the bottom bar once a minute as per the setting. However, no mail is actually received, so the original problem is still there.
    Suggestions?

    In Outlook 2007:
    click Tools,
    click Account settings...,
click {the name of your email account that's not working} once to highlight it,
click Change... (above {the name of your email account that's not working}),
and then click the Test Account Settings... button.
Let us know what happens ...

    Completed. No errors.
But, Test message only arrived after I clicked on send/receive button in toolbar.

I would first change the time to 5 minutes instead of 1.

Next, make sure that Send immediately when connected is checked from Options > Mail Setup

The problem could also be caused by a corrupt profile, so try creating a new profile & see if that resolves the problem. See How to create and configure email profiles in Outlook

A new profile did not work.
I uninstalled the MS Office 2007 Suite and reinstalled everything. Outlook now works normally again.

OK, thanks for the information. I'd probably tried a repair before a reinstall, but since it worked ;)

I had tried a repair before I posted, but that did not work, hence my post.
