    Hi:

The following, I have no earthly idea of who it is and care less !

It is just an example of the many, many e-mails that bugs me no end.

They will contain a link that leads me straight to (see an example below).

    ********************************************************

    Keith R. Bearman (papabearkrb)

keithbearman(at)optonline.net (adress modified for security reasond by Mod)
    ********************************************************

When I click on the link I get:

THE OUTLOOK 2003 STARTUP WIZARD page.

Yes, I have Microsoft Office 2003, but I sure don't want to activate "Outlook" - no way !

(Note: I'm not kicking Outlook, but I prefer and use "Outlook Express.)

So, what is happening here ?

This happens a lot - we can not get past this message and receive the e-mail.

And it keeps me away from receiving what we want at times !

Any suggestions how we can stop this Microsoft "pitch" from coming up in my e-mail ?

    Thanks a lot

    A word of advice .....

Never open emails from people you do not recognise and above all, if you do never click on any links or open any attachments. If you do it is the surefire way to infecting your computer.

Moved to the Windows Mail forum.

    Where's the beef ?

    Hi:

Ok, you dinged me on our bad virus protection habits !

But, where's the answer to my question?

We'll get away from e-mail and go to Windows systems.

I recently received a list of folks within my interest group.

The list was developed using Windows Excel Spreadsheet.

Now when we click on the e-mail addresses we expect to be given
an opportunity to send an e-mail to that address.

Instead we get that same @@4%$# message:

"Outlook 2003 Startup" "Welcome to the Wizard ----- "

I do not want that !!!!!!

    I use Outlook Express !

    Any help --- Anybody ??

    Thanks

I had hoped that an Outlook specialist might respond ......

For my part check this out ....

In Internet Explorer go Tools > Internet Options > Programs and check that Outlook Express is selected from the Email dropdown list.

I have edited your thread title.

    Outlook problem

    Hi:

Hey, this series of postings really needs ignoring completly, if not actually deleted from the board.

    Why?

Because of my not knowing what I was talking about.

    1. First off I did not state what operating system I was using.

    2. I began wanting help to restore features we enjoyed with
Outlook Express when I am not even using Outlook Express but another
system entirely - Windows Mail !

Ok, see the dumb beginner thinking we were back with XP when we were really on a machine using Windows Vista.

I was so dumb on that new OS that I was using the On/Off switch to
exit Windows because I was still looking for the "Shut Down" Icon.
It was by accident we discovered that itty bitty white arrow - oh me !

Everybody agree with me all this needs removing - good !

No - the problem is not resolved :)

In Vista open up Internet Explorer > Tools > Programs tab.

On the Programs tab click on Set Programs under the heading Internet programs.

In the Window which opens headed Default Programs click on Set your default programs.

In the Program list click on Windows Mail, then on Set this program as default

Click on OK and close the Default programs window.

BTW Windows Mail is a revamped Outlook Express and XP is so much simpler in this respect :)
