Whenever I select a msg in outlook 2003 (in any folder) my outlook goes "not responding" for several seconds sometimes up to 20-30 (may not seem like a lot, but I am a sw eng. and I am in email all day)... I had it set to only download headers and that helped, but did not solve the problem. It is at work, so I have a high speed network, and it is not network bandwidth...

    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Gary

Might look and see how large your .pst file(s) is/are.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

If the files are over a couple of gigs you should probably create additional pst or use the archive function.

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks for the reply.

I have 1.6GB of pst data spread over 12 files. The largest pst file is 475MB. The smallest is 45MB.

    Thanks,
    Gary

Do you have Norton or McAfee for virus scans? Could be that causing the delay.

If you do, try this to check. Open task manager (crtl+alt+delete) and choose the "processes" tab before clicking on a message. As you do, see which program in the list is taking up the CPU usage (each one has a number, see which one all of the sudden goes to a high number, like 50). You can post here the name of the program taking all the CPU usage.

    Just a thought...
