Recently switched to Outlook 2003 after upgrading all my PCs from XP and OE. Consequently, I'm still getting blindsided occasionally by the odd glitch.

The latest head-scratcher was an email from a computer parts supplier that displays in HTML instead of Rich Text like everything else. I reported it him and thought no more about it until today when I got an email from another commercial source that was also showing the HTML coding.

Too coincidental. Checked both emails on the online server site and they display normally. Read somewhere that this situation can be caused on a PC by antivirus software settings.

Anyone else experienced this? And solved it? :)

    Cheers.

So you're saying that my Outlook settings are at fault? Any idea which?

Nope, not at all. That's the way Outlook is suppose to work.

If someone sends you a HTML email, Outlook should display it as HTML

If someone sends you a Rich Text email, Outlook should display it as Rich Text.

If someone sends you a Plain Text email, Outlook should display it as Plain Text.

I don't get it. Why would someone (actually, two someones, now) send emails that only display in HTML code?

As I said, if I inspect the emails on my ISP's website, they display correctly - with logos, pics etc. But when viewed in my Outlook 2003, they're just HTML gobbledygook.

Ergo, something's being lost in translation. Yes?

Ah ha, I see what you mean now. If Outlook is displaying the HTML code instead of rendering the HTML page, something is definitely wrong somewhere.

    Have you tried a repair?

(Click Start, type in appwiz.cpl and press [Enter], scroll down to "Microsoft Office <Std, Bus, Pro, ...> Edition 2003" and click the "Change" button, select "Reinstall or Repair" and follow the onscreen instructions).

And by the way, the defacto standard for email should be html instead of rich text. Rich txt email is horrible and is not supported in the same manner by all email clients.
