Suddenly, for reasons unclear, my regular contact list of email addresses in Outlook 2003 is unavailable, and an older version (a different contacts data file) has substituted itself in its place.

When I type a contact name in the Outlook 2003 "search contacts" field, the contact shows up as being there -- but then when I go to address an email, that contact is not listed in the address book.

Obviously, a wrong data file has substituted itself for the correct one.

I had a similar problem years ago, but I can't remember how I fixed it.

    Can someone help me?

    Thanks for any advice.

Outlook stores all mail, contacts and calendar items in the one .pst file... (you can have more then one) Did you make any type of change to the PST file?

If you start a new mail message and click the TO button-> you should seee something similar to "Show Name From" -> is there a drop down button and maybe show you that you have more then one Contact folder?

    Hi,

I seem to recall that it was possible to use the addressbook files (ADR) from previous Office versions when upgrading to O2k3.

Is it possible you have an 'old' ADR file bound into the OL profile and this is the new source of your data - or conversly, was the source and is no longer so?

    IHTH :)

    Brgds,

    David D.

Thanks for your replies. I'll check when I get home today (the problem is on my home laptop). But I do recall that there were several different contact lists (or address book data files) I just don't recall how to find those and change from one to the other.

    More later ...

See the attached. If on the right - I select "contacts" I'll get a full screen of my normal contacts.
