    We are running Windows Vista.

When receiving email with jpg/jpeg attachments in Outlook 2003 and try to open the attachment, we get a message asking if we want to open it, save it or cancel and you can uncheck the box that states to always ask before opening this type of file. We've unchecked it, but when you open this or another attachment it still asks the same message and does not remember that we unchecked the box to always ask?

Is there a way to disable this message entirely so that it never asks this and just opens the attachment when we click on it?

    Thank you!:p

Is another attachment same type of file as the previous, unchecked one?

Save it where you can find it. Then go to it and right click on it and choose OPEN WITH and do it. Then put a check in the box at the bottom that says always use this program or what ever it says if you have a choice to do that.

The problem is not that the computer doesn't know what program to use to open the attachment, its that each time I go to open the attachment in an email that a window comes up and says

"always ask before opening this type of file "

and we uncheck the box and open the attachment. We can then close that attachment and try to open the same exact attachment and the window comes up again?

That is a feature that I am guessing built into MS for Security reasons. I don't know how to remove that unless there is a registry hack to do it with. It is like giving you a second chance to deny it. At one time, most viruses were sent in certain types of attachments. As soon as they were opened, you were in trouble.

Does anyone have a registry fix for this? We are not overly concerned with viruses since we don't receive junk email and know the senders whom are sending us photos and expecting them.

    Thanks!

    One more time...
Say, you received .jpg attachment. You unchecked always ask before opening this type of file
Some new email with attachment comes. Is it same .jpg type of file, which creates same security pop-up, or different type of file?

    Broni,

So far it appears to be the same type of attachment. We receive lots of .jpg and .jpeg files and the message appears everytime.

    Thanks

The latest response is correct. This happens on an attachment that I have already uncheck the box to ask me. I can try to open one attachment, uncheck the box, then try to reopen the same and the same attachment and file type and get the same message. I've never had this issue with previous versions of outlook of windows until we got this new laptop which has Vista and Outlook 2003.

    Thanks!

Did you try any solutions from my last link?

    Also...
Open Windows Explorer's Tools, Folder Options menu. Look on the File Types tab for the attachment type, and select it then the Advanced button and make sure, there is no checkmark in Confirm after Open option.

We are new to Windows Vista/Outlook 2003 and are familar with previous versions. We have found that when you go to My Computer, and Choose Tools, Options, that File Types is no longer at tab located in this location???

In addition when I go to tools in Outlooks and download options, it appears that whatever I check or don't check doesn't seem to affect the overall outcome. I agree that there is some type of system security which is preventing my choice from becoming the default and I am looking for an option to override this issue.

    Thank you!

    I forgot, you're on Vista...
Vista is using different path: Start>Default Programs, but after some search, I couldn't find Confirm after Open option there.

You still didn't say, if you went through my link.

Yes we reviewed your link and attempted these items. The problem is that this doesn't fix our issue.

Again this only occurs in attachments that I am trying to open from an email and even if I uncheck the box which should tell it not to ask me this again.. it still asks even on an attachment within Outlook that I've already uncheck and opened???

I understand. Unfortunately, I'm out of fresh ideas.

    Thanks anyways Broni!

Anyone else have any ideas how to get Outllok 2003 to except and hold the unchecking of this box? Or better yet getting rid of this message all together?

    Thanks,
    Shelly

I just removed the "always ask" check on a Word Doc in Outlook 2003...Worked like a charm even after closing Outlook and re-opening it.

Can't test any more files types since I prefer the check mark to be there.
