    Dear all:

Could someone give me any idea about why I am getting the following error?:

I have been using Outlook 2000 (Windows 98) without problems until yesterday. Since then, I can receive e-mail with no problem but can not send any. I always get the error message:

"The message can not be send. Server reply: '550 <.....@.....> relaying denied. Error number: 0x800ccc79 "

It happens with any e-mail address I try.

I have checked with my ISP and everything is Ok on their end. Also my account configuration is ok.

    Thanks for any help.

    narob.

Firstly, if you are connected to the internet via myisp.com, make sure that you are not trying access the mail server of an IP other than myisp.com. ISP's often allow mail to be routed via their mail server only if it originated from a connection within their "network" as a spam prevention (relaying) measure.

Also, are you using a "From" address which matches the ISP whose mail server you are trying to access? For examle, if you connect to the internet via myisp.com your "From" address must be somebody@myisp.com and, if you try to use some other address, your mail will very probably bounce.

    Hello Brett:

I am in the process of changing to a new ISP because the one that I still use is closing down. I still have access to their mail server. Do you think that this could be causing the problem?. Is it possible that the server allows me to receive e-mails but not to send?.

    Thanks.

If you are connecting to the internet via your new ISP and trying to send mail via your old ISP's mail server then this is almost certainly the cause of the problem. Your old ISP should be able to confirm this.

I am using the new ISP to connect to Internet, but my e-mail is still using the old ISP configuration.

I can not contact the old ISP because anyone answer the phone now. I will wait to get my new e-mail account with the new ISP and see then if the problem is solved.

    Thanks.

I agree with Brett. In your email properties, incoming mail server can be your old one. Outgoing mail server needs to be your new one.
