    Hello GOod afternoon....

I know there is a solution for this but I cant remember how...

i recently had to do the ole reformat and re-install of the OS (W2K) and all went great!!! I then reinstalled Office 2000 and all went good except when i used the M$ backup utility to restore my PST file (folders with email, contacts and all their info, tasks, calendar, etc...). This went great and all my personal folders and the email were restored. The backup restore also restored my contacts folder. When I click on it, it shows the various contact sub-folders I created and in each sub folder it shows the email contacts and all their info is intact and if i select a contact and open their info window, i can create and send a email to them no problem, i can also send the email if i open a blank email and type in the addy manually...:p

the problem that I know i resolved a few years back but cant remember the solution and cant find in any of my resources and searching is....

I go to create an email and select the "TO" and/or "CC" and/or "BC" field the select name window pops up, normally i would be able to select the sub contact group that i wanted and below it would populate with the various contacts and i could select 1 or more and add them to the "to ", "cc ", and/or "bc" fields and then send off the email...:)

now however, when I select either "to" or "cc" or "bc" and get the pop up window (select name), it only has a selection that says "contacts" and nothing shows up below...in essence I cant select any of my sub contacts lists or even an individual contact and i looked at the address book in outlook and it doesnt show any of the sub contact lists or individual contacts either...

the thought that I would have to go and re-create every contact and list and all their info almost crashed my head...LOL....i know this can be resolved but all my searching here and at M$ and my resources has not given me the solution....

any help would be greatly appreciated...i know this can be resolved...:D

On my system at work (we use MS Exchange) you would go to Tools and select Services and the Addressing tab then make any changes there.

Not sure on other systems but I'll take a look at my home setup tonight and get back to you. In the meantime it gives you something to think about and maybe an idea of where to look on your system.

    yuppers I saw that...

ya i have seen a lot about doing that for M$ exchange server and i dont have the option for "services" under tools...

i did resolve the issue but it was a royal pain the the arse...what I did was move contacts from 1 sub-folder at a time into the main contacts folder...delete the sub-folder and then re-create the sub-folder and move the contacts from the main contacts folder into the new sub-folder I created...thank goodness I could move multiple contacts or else it would have taken forever...I had approximately 8 sub-folders under the main contacts folder and so it took about 20 minutes or so but when i was done, I can now use the "TO," or "CC," or "BCC" fields like they normally do...I am not sure, I thought I was restoring correctly but must have goofed somewhere or else it's a typical M$ thing...

Funny another thing cropped up too...it imported my rules that were saved in the PST file but the rules would not work no matter what I did to tweak them and so I had to remove all and am rebuilding them slowly...

I thought that the backup utility M$ put out for Outlook was supposed to do all this work, but thank goodness being a Techie for an ISP has taught me how to think outside of the box, to think inside of the box...

any info you get will be deeply appreciated, thanks for responding....:D

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I went through my system at home and couldn't find a darn thing to help.

I recently upgraded to Windows XP, stting it up on a new HDD and then putting the old HDD as a slave drive I imported the .pst file. Everything came through exactly as it had been in my WIN98 setup. Of course I don't have multiple layers in my contacts.

Glad you got it working the way you want, too bad it was such a pain.
