Not sure what happened, but I think I may have tried to import my Outlook.pst file when I was doing a back-up. Outlook 2000 on Windows XP Home.

I now have 2 sets of Personal Folders/directories that are exact mirrors (with all files closed there are two main directories) and when an e-mail comes in, it can be viewed in either "Personal Folders" or "Outlook Today - [Personal Folders]. The hierarchy of the files under each is identical and the size of the Outlook.pst file has not changed appreciably, so all I am seeing is a duplicate of the file structure, but not a duplicate of the actual files.

I have tried to delete one of the main folders, but a message comes up that you cannot delete the folder that contains calendar, etc. and as they are just mirror files, if I delete any sub-folder under one directory, it is deleted under the other directory.

Of course my last back-up was about 3 weeks ago, so I am loathe to go back to it at this point.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Rob Frais

Make a copy of ur PST file before doing anything you feel not safe.

How about right click on the Personal Folder (NOT the outlook today) and choose "Close personal folder "? Will it work?

It keeps coming back with the message that Outlook cannot close a folder containg calendar, contacts and POP mailbox, whichever I choose to try to close.

Close Outlook... Open Windows explorer, then navigate to the Outlook folder and see if you can delete the duplicate there.
C:\Documents and Settings\*user name*\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. If you're not sure which file it is... move one file at a time to a different folder, open Outlook to see if it corrected your problem.
    Good luck...

Apologies for late reply, was out of town for a bit. There is only an Outlook.pst file and a backup file that I had made in May, plus an "extend.dat" file which is only 2 kb. The Outlook.pst file is about the right size, and the second "identity" is just mirroring the first "identity ".
