About a week ago I installed McAfee Internet Security Suite 6.0. (Perviously I had used McAfee Virus Scan and Firewall packages with no problems.)

That evening all seemed okay, but the next morning I started having errattic mail problems. However, around the same time my ISP (Comcast) did an upgrade to their spam blocking which clouded the issue.

Since then I have done a complete uninstall of McAfee and three reinstalls of NS 7.1 (2 short version & 1 from the larger download). As of this date I have not reinstalled McAfee.

All NS and NS Mail functions appear to work EXCEPT the sending of e-mail. After a period of time I get a failure message that "Sending of message failed. ......because connecting to SMTP server smtp.comcast.net failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. .... "

Comcast says they are not having problems (although I've seen occassional slow speeds and none repeatitive strange things over the last few days, including not being able to save Draft messages.

An individual named Bently has posted a similar problem in the Netscape part of this site, but I'm not convinced it is a NS problem. As I began, I've used NS 7.1 with McAfee Vscan w/ Firewall (7.0) and McAfee QuickClean 3.0 for a year with no problems at all.

Have you tried using Outlook Express to send email? If not, I'd give it a try and see if it works. If it works, you'd know it's a Netscape problem, if not, it would point towards Windows or your ISP.

    Great idea

    Thanks Zander.

Never having used Outlook Express before I never thoguth of that simple step. After a few moments to configure it, I gave it a whirl and BINGO - - - - I sent mail.

Looks like my problem is in NS. I find that I can't save to my Draft folder either.

Now I got to get some more input on why reinstalling NS doesn't work. Could it be a registry problem?

I don't really know what to tell you. I don't use Netscape anymore so I'm not really to well versed on it. I did recently download Mozilla Firebird but haven't had it long enough to really get to know it. Maybe something wrong with your profile? When you reinstalled Netscape did you create a new profile? If memory serves me correctly, when you create a new profile you also have to set up a mail account for that particular profile. Maybe if you created a new profile with an all together new mail account, it would work for you. I really don't know for sure. This should really Get moved to the Netscape forum. Seems to be a question for Ramona. Where is that girl when you need her? :) Well, maybe somebody else will chime in here. At least you know what you're up against now. IMHO, it's better that its a Netscape problem than a Windows problem. At least you can use OE until you get it fixed.

    Resolved ?

    Thanks for the input.

Ramona did give some sugestions today which took care of the SEND problem. Still can't save drafts, but that's not as near a problem, and I'm sure she'll come up with an answer for that.

    Again, Thanks
