I'm working with a user who has 3 or 4 instances of Access 97 open at the same time. After a few days, she gets an error message indicating "The system has run out of memory and data that has not been saved will be lost ".

The user is wanting more RAM installed, but she already has 128MB, and we've increased her Virtual Memory to 512MB with no luck. This really doesn't seem to me to be an issue with the amount of memory she has, but rather it seems to me like a memory leak of some sort. However, I'm by no means an expert on this.

Does anybody know of any issues with Access 97 and memory leaks, or have any suggestions as to what I can do?

    Thanks

    After a few days,

Is this without retstarting Windows at all ?

If so the problem will happen. It will load up both Memory and resources.

Windows seems to work best when restarted at least once per day.

Which version of Windows is being used ?

I'm pretty sure this is without restarting windows (WinNT 4.0).

I pretty much figured that restarting windows would do fine, but its hard to explain that to a user who is convinced that they need more memory.

    memory

terry_ward , 128 meg ram isn't really enough to run several instances of ms access even w/lotsa virtual swap mem. If they insist then have them close all those things in the "tray" like real player, icq, aim, etc: these are hogs that keep memory tied:)

Can also try letting windows manage the virtual ram. If it's set tooooooo lowwwww it'll give an out of mem error.

ALL ALL ALL MS Office applications leak memory.
More RAM would help her, but it will not stop the memory leaks.
Definitely disable FindFast from running at startup or ever.

I imagine that her video also looks dull after a few days of running the way she does.......

    dam the ram from leaks

Yes that's nature of huge proggy's. However them little leaky appy's leak more per mega byte size! Real audio & real jukebox being said to be the worse. So there is a few small utes that will flush memory so it's available again. One is memory turbo and find it @ www.memturbo.com/ works great:)

I also imagine how slooooow the keyboard response must be after a few hrs:)

With memory prices being so low and the ease of installing another stick of ram, this seems like a 'no-brainer' (IMHO). Doubling the ram on this machine would make a world of difference (256mb). Having several instances of a program open will definitely use up ram. I also agree that eliminating all un-necessary background (taskbar) programs (and an occasional reboot) will help to increase performance.

A perhaps stupid, and definitely naive question (not having run Access and not knowing NT), but, why is your user running multiple instances.
Why not one, and open multiple databases?
If that is possible, it will definitely reduce memory consumption.
