I have a secured wireless network set-up in our office. Another office in the building has an unsecured network. The problem is that some of the laptops will connect to the unsecured network instead of the one I set up for our use.

How can I configure the laptops so they don't see the unsecured network?

Wireless and I are not on speaking terms as of yet. I simply haven't had any reason to work with it. So while I imagine there is a nifty wireless way to do this, I don't have a clue what it might be.

However, IP networks are pretty much similar in lots of ways so if you hard code the IP address, subnet mask, etc. into each of your PCs and make sure you are on a completely different network (as determined by IP and netmask) from the other one, it should solve your problem.

Have you tried going to the wireless networks>advanced and unchecking automatically connect to non preferred Maybe change the channel to one not in use.
You didn't mention if you were using Windows or other network management software to configure the network.

If you are using XP SP2 and allowing Windows to manage the wireless conection here are a couple of notes.

Windows will not automatically connect to an unsecured network.

Windows will automatically connect to a secure network using WEP with a stored WEP key.

Prior to SP2 this was not the case. Windows would manage wireless networks flakey at best.

You can also go to view wireless networks and create a preference order.

I experienced this recently as a VIP to my customer was visiting with his laptop and my customer wanted me to configure the VIP's laptop to our Secure wireless.
It's amazing how some large corporations drag their feet on things. This VIP was from Pepsi (I hope you Pepsi IT's are reading this) and they are not allowing SP2 to be installed on their users machines.
SP2 has been a win win for me so I have no idea what they are waiting on. SP3 maybe?
