After loads of good advice and opinions about getting a new system and the pros and cons of moving from 98 to XP, I had a idea that would solve my problems. However, I'm not sure that what I need is manufactured anymore. Hopefully, someone will read this and know.

A few years back we had boards from a company named JDR which allowed the user to select from multiple hard drives on the bootup. This would enable the user to have 98 and XP on the same PC. At boot thime one would simply select which OS to use.

JDR no longer sells the board. Does anyone know if this item still exists out there in the world anymore?

Hi, most modern Mainboards will allow you to do this from the bios , just hit the del key at boot and choose the hard drive you want to boot from also there are a number of software solutions available e.g PQBoot (in Partition Magic) and System Commander. Also I know that Windows 2000 gives a choice of which operating system to boot into at startup.

    Hi Cal E

If your are talking about having two seperate drives each with a different OS I have seen devices on tigerdirect's website that will let you switch between them.

Basically it uses a 5 1/4 or 3 1/2 drive bay face plate with butons and or switches to let you select the drive to boot from. The cables from the face plate attach to the jumpers on the HD.

You can check them out at this link:

    Cheers,

    Gary

    Switch sounds good

The switches sound good. I need to call TigerDirect to be sure about the cheapest model to be sure it does the job. The mid priced unit's description definately would but the wording for the $20 unit isn't as concise.

If there's one area I conservative in, it's this change. I've upgraded from DOS on up and by now there's so much junk being carried over, I need to start anew. I've tried several "clean up" programs and they all work to some degree, but I still see a lot of stuff that I'm skeptical of.

    Thanks all.
