I have a Dell Mini 10 Netbook which has a 12 GB static hard drive
with Linux Ubuntu 8.04.2 installed. Linux has been a useful experience
but I would like to go back to Windows. I am aware that the drive isn't
big enough for Windows 7 Home but is it adequately sized for
Windows 7 Starter and if so where can I obtain a copy? Any advice about
this and/or possible pitfalls will be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

AFAIK Windows 7 Starter Edition is only available preloaded on a netbook - it is not available retail.

I have no idea as to the space required for Starter, but the majority of netbooks these days have moved away from SSD drives to conventional hard drives. My first Asus EeePC had 4GB and 7Gb SSD drives (very limiting :)) - my current EeePC has a conventional 160 Gb hard drive and is not much larger.

Thanks for the reply PeteC. I suspected that W7S wasn't available retail, so thanks for the confirmation. I now appreciate the limitations of the static drive but it seemed like a good idea at the time :(
I will have to stick with Linux I suppose. Thanks for your time.
