My neighbor has an old HP 6535 with only 128 mb of RAM. He wants to upgrade to the maximum amount of RAM the system can handle. I went to Crucial.com and looked up the computer on their site and find that the computer has 2 slots and can carry a maximum of 256 mb of RAM. Also, they only show 32 mb, 64 mb and 128 mb cards of RAM available.

Now the question.... since the computer is supposed to handle 256 mb of RAM can I buy a single 256 mb RAM card or do I have to use 2 128 mb?

I see where I can buy a 256 mb card for about half of buying 2 128 mb cards.

    Hi Jim
Since the HP machine has 128 Megs of memory already, why not just add a 128 Meg stick from Crucial ??
    They do guarantee compatibility.

Ok, are you saying BOTH slots are now occupied with 64 Megs each ??
I assummed, perhaps wrongly, that it had one stick of 128 Megs installed and the second slot was empty.
    Sorry about that :)

Hi Jim78418- I checked the specs for the 6535 at HP and they are specific that you need 2- 128MB modules to reach the 256MB maximum and not 1- 256MB module. Sorry. Clydeo22.

Clyde, thank you for taking the time to check this out. I was at the HP site but didn't/couldn't find anything. Obviously you had better luck. Thanks again.
