I'm interested in knowing if there is an "optional volume control" that can be put on the lower bar of Windows screen (other that the "speaker" icon that you need to click on to open). Specifically, it would be nice to have one that would remain open without having to click on it each time to adjust volume. If there is a way to change this - (or perhaps some other software that provids this) - I'd like to hear about it.

    Thanks in advance.

If you double-click the volume icon, you get the full volume control applet to open.

StatBar is a freeware system status bar which provides a handy, orderly overview of your system's condition. Thanks for the feed back. I know about the right click and getting the full menu for audio settings ... I was just wanting a simplier control that would stay "open" and available to change volume without having to click on the speaker icon each time I want to turn up/down the volume.

My keyboard (Logitech) has volume control buttons (up-down-mute).

    :)
Thanks for all the feed back. The laptop I'm using is relatively new - and I didn't realize that the keyboard also has a (fn) volume control.!!
