Will run it. But Win95 is lighter and will be faster if cleaned and tweaked.

Max memory? The more you can throw at it the better. But not 512M. If it is exactly 512 or more you will have problem. So max at 498 (512 minus 16).

But that is not the problem. This old type memory is no longer in production and will be very expensive.

thanks . What a fst reply.
what type of Ram - PC 100 ? or something else ?
for my Amd 350 I got all types of answers as to what was optimal. The belief that "you can the better" is not necassirly so with older machines. With the 350 I reached a point and then it ssllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllowed down to a crawl.
what does anyone think is optimal ?

You missed the point. Win9x has a problem with 512 or greater ram.

Install up to but less (416 megs) may reach a point of diminishing returns but it will not slow it down. If you put it less than 512 and it slowed down then it was bad memory or some other problem.

As for the memory you will need to pull the existing memory to tell or maybe find the original specs for the motherboard.

Go to www.crucial.com and fill in the blocks and they will give you a answer. Max ram probably will be 4 sticks of 32mb for a total of 128MB.
It may take 64's, but those older ones were limited on how much ram they would take.
But, if your are now under 32MB, you will definately see a difference.

schamish, if I remember correctly, 64 mb of ram was considered optimal for Win95. 98 needs more than that, but will run on it.
