I recently purchased an optical mouse and was going to utilize the different settings for the buttons. There is no help file or manual so of course I ran into a problem with setting one of the buttons.

For the 4th button, I have several choices but can’t figure out how to set it at what I want. I selected the "Use Default Browser" and it keeps opening Netscape 4.7, which is NOT what I want. I rarely use that version. I normally alternate between Netscape 7.2 and FireFox.

How in the world would I get one of those options if it were not on the drop down list in the mouse software? Is that some sort of Registry setting?

    VegasPat,

Have you made Firefox your Default Browser? If not, you can do so here:
Tools | Options | General, Default Browser.

See if that opens Firefox, instead of Communicator. What is the Brand and model # of the optical mouse?

    Ramona,

Well, that kind of works. When I click the button now, FireFox opens but won't open my home page. (IWon.com) I get a time out message, but when I go to the Home icon on the Tool Bar, IWon opens up as usual.

If I don't use the mouse and just open FireFox as I usually do, it loads my Home page just fine. Can't figure that one out.

I also noticed today when sending an e-mail from a couple of sites, instead of the e-mail program from Netscape 7.2 opening, I get the Netscape 4.79 compose window. I never did before.

I don't suppose this would have anything to do with all the Windows updates that I did today. Not my choice. (Microsoft)

My new mouse is an Elements 4D Optical Mouse. I picked it up from my computer repair guy. The stuff is usually generic type stuff.

    vegaspat,

You need to ask your PC guy if he has a manual for the Mouse, or if he can get one for you.

As to Communicator opening instead of 7.2, for your Mail, have you made 7.2 your default Mail program:
    Edit | Preferences | Mail & Newsgroups
Use Netscape Mail as the default Mail Application.

Sorry I can't be more helpful on your Mouse...

    Thanks. I appreciate your help.

I suspect that there wouldn't be a manual. I was there when the PC guy opened the UPS box and pulled the mouse out. I guess they figure any nut could configure the mouse. Little do they know.

What is your opinion on uninstalling 4.7? I kept it around because one of my bank sites would only recognize it and IE. I wrote to them twice and they said they would work on expanding the option. I recently saw where they now allow me to use both 7.2 and FireFox.

Also, I know I must be nuts for sure. I have been trying to clear the location bar in FireFox and I'm sure I did it before. So far I haven't found the option. The help file doesn't tell me how.
