    Hi all

Does anybody here have knowledge of scanners? I posted the following message back on Feb. 23 and 'though read many times, I had no responses. Since then, I've reinstalled the scanner and allowed it to recalibrate itself with NO improvement.

Though I'm not terminology tuned, I think one might call it a `moire' problem. Here's the prior message:

I have a Plustech Optic Pro UT12 scanner and it's about 15 months aged. It's running from Windows 98SE via USB connection. Results have generally been quite good but lately, I cannot scan even a black and white photo at 100 or 150 resolution that the resulting image isn't `blotchy with a checkerboard-like pattern' little squares of about 1/16" square. They're like square over sized pixels.

Anybody here with the expertise to tell me how to overcome this problem? I cannot massage them with LView Pro or Adobe Photo Deluxe.

Oh yes, the glass scan surface is clean. The scanner sits on my large work table made of a 1 1/2" solid wood door [heavy brute]. Do you think the slight vibration of the printer sitting 5' away would be sufficient to knock the `laser' out of adjustment? If so, is the scanner worth being repaired? It was a top of the Plustechline when bought and includes scanning capability for slides and transparencies.

All I can say is did you contact Plustek? I looked over their site http://www.plustek.com and they have two downloads for your scanner. One was the driver which you may have dated July 5, 2001 and the other was to give you better image quality with sildes & negatives. Then too they also have a support form you could fill out and you may get lucky and they we send you a reply.

    SCANNER

    Hi Russ,

I have the latest drivers installed and in the year and a half I've had this scanner, I've had no success with Plustek, even to registering the unit. I've given up on them.

Incidentally, it worked fine 'til the past 6 weeks. I hate to buy a new one but.......

    Thanks for your response.
