    windows 98 ,64 mb ram .i tried win98 resore disk and it came on told me to reboot then same message.then same error comes up

    It seems the boot sector of your hard drive is damaged.
    Just what do you mean by restore disk? A floppy disk or a Windows CD?
    The 98 startup floppy doesn't 'restore' anything by itself, it is a tool to repair and install windows.
    If a floppy, do this commands at the A:\>.
    scandisk /all /autofix
    fdisk /mbr
    sys a: c:

    Take out floppy and reboot.
    If nothing happens, your drive is probably dead. If you see a C:\> appear, and windows does not start, that is still a good sign. At this time, type in 'win' and press Enter.

    Check connections first.

    Before you conclude that your drive died, first check that all connections are securely connected. In rare occasions I have had a conncetion come loose seemingly all by itself.

    If the system doesn't recognize a drive's existence, this might be the case.
