I took many suggestions and installed Free Opera. It used to load a home page but now just sits there. I can put in a URL but nothing happens. I did wait for 3-5 minutes and nothing

    Hi tenbob,

I believe what Newt was asking is do you have a previous version of Opera installed? If so it is probably conflicting and would need to be uninstalled. If not, either the download or the installation was possibly corrupted or incomplete. Try uninstalling and reinstalling. Might even want to redownload. Post back if this doesn't work (and if it does).

noahdfear - I was really trying to find out if the internet connection itself was still good. Since IE works, it is.

I like your suggestion though. I would have been pretty well stuck after finding out that IE worked and now I don't have to admit it. :)

tenbob, a link to the official Opera forum can be found here Opera Forum link
Just register, and you can post a question or search their extensive forum.
Which version are you running, is it the current Opera 7?
File>preferences>start and exit tab>click on start with home page with the portal.opera.com checked to see if the Opera default homepage opens up. Make sure that start with no pages isn't checked.I use the continue from last time option due to numerous tabbed windows that are open. They will immediately open when I run Opera.
Also, there are 2 versions of Opera to download, one is over 15 MB and contains the java engine. I'm not sure if this pertains to your dilemma, just an FYI.
    cheers, ~pawprint~
