    Windows XP SP3
    Comodo Firewall
    Avira Free
    Netgear WGR614 v7
    Netgear WG111 v3

I am attempting to connect to an elluminate.com meeting session. it freezes upon starting audio module. The help desk for the host thought it was a Java issue. We've cleared the java cache. confirmed that only one java version is installed. we've uninstalled & reinstalled java twice. java checks out on the java test site. the meeting software still freezes at audio module startup.

the host company of the meeting now says they have exhausted all options & they believe the necessary ports are closed on the router. i looked into the netgear information for opening ports.... but I am not sure what i am doing & don't want to open the incorrect ports. do you have any information to provide on doing this? is this the correct action to take? i show port 80 is open on the netgear router as a default http port. they have two others they want opened.

The host company should be able to tell you which ports need to be open. Or you could install the following on the troubled pc and a working pc. Look in the working pc while the app is running to see which ports are being used.

CurrPorts allows you to view a list of ports that are currently in use, and the application that is using it. You can close a selected connection and also terminate the process using it, and export all or selected items to a HTML or text report. Additional information includes the local port name, local/remote IP address, highlighted status changes and more.

I do have the port numbers but I am not sure about opening them. I have not done it before.... though the netgear walkthrough seems easy enough. I just do not want to put in the wrong information & open a port to anyone.

By default the router will only allow port 80 on the LAN, not the Internet. Do not fully open the router port 80.

To open ports on the router you must use Port Forwarding. Set the port # and forward to your LAN ip address (192.168.x.x).

If use port forwarding you should set the comp with a static LAN ip address.

It's alse quite possible that your Comodo firewall is blocking the connection, check there first.

i did try there (comodo) but this is my first time using it & I could not find anywhere that it showed blocking anything.... I will look around again.

Interestingly, the computer freeze up always occurred on the loading audio module of the splash screen. I told them I believe this meant I was not being blocked by router or firewall but that was worth a shot since, we had tried everything else they cam up with. I was playing with the Audio ESP that they have installed for the microphone..... and it froze up. So, I think it is something with the sound. Not Java or firewall like they believe.

I will look at the port forwarding again this weekend. Thank you!

99.9% of those meeting sites do everything through port 80.

If they required firewall changes to work they wouldn't be in business very long.

Maybe make sure that UP&P is turned on in the router.
