Having trouble opening attachments. When I click on the paper clip, the normal options come up, but they are half intensity, (not the right description I am sure) which means you cannot make the choice to open or save to a file. I had this problem before, and I thought the solution was under tools/internet options. Can't seem to find it there..... Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Jerry

Hi Jerry, welcome to the board. If you are using Outlook Express, open it, click the tools menu, click security. There is a check box there that may be enabled to prevent you from opening attachments.

If that cures the problem, OK, but I would suggest you not open any attachments in your email inbox, just highlight them, click the file menu, save to a folder under "Save As ", delete it from your inbox, then scan the attachment where you saved it with an up-to-date Anti Virus and Spy Bot.

Only then is it probably safe to open an attachment. That's because even your best friend can unknowingly send you a virus or spyware, or worse.

Let us know how you make out, cure the problem?

In OE click tools>options>security and uncheck the line that says "do not allow attachments........ "

    Thanks

Thanks for the help. I remember and did that fix for my sister, who is having the problem, but it did not work. I think you have to shut down IE for some changes to take effect. At any rate, she did, it works, and the world is wonderful again. Thanks again for the help all!!!!

    Jerry :)

You're welcome. Don't be a stranger to the board, you may be able to help the next person with the same troubles. Even if not, you are sure to learn something.
