I wish to open a "Guest" account so visitors can use my PC over Christmas.

I have been to Control Panel>User Accounts and added the "Guest" account.

However, if I log in a "Guest" and click on the Speedtouch icon, I get the "Application Error" box appear with the message, " Could not create entry ( " "+Speedtouch Connection" ") "

Does anyone know what I have to do to correct this ?

You will need to set Permissions for Speedtouch to include the Guest User.

Maybe - but as a single user and with no current knowledge of the Speedtouch setup - I use a router, I am treading on thin ice here :)

In XP Pro permissions are set by right clicking on a file > Properties > Security tab and selecting the user and configuring the permissions. It is necessary to have Simple File Sharing unchecked (Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View). The Security tab will only be present if the drive is formatted NTFS

In Home the Security tab is not present, but if you log on as Administrator in Safe Mode it will be seen - again provided that the drive is formatted NTFS.

How Do I Get the Security tab in Folder Properties?

With that background info right click on the Speedtouch icon Properties - if the target points to a .exe file navigate to that file in Windows Explorer and set permissions for the Guest Account.

The Guest account according to MS should allow access to the Internet - this may assume that the software - Speedtouch in this case, was installed for All Users.

If any of this works let us know - if it doesn't post back and I'll try to get some further input from others more knowledgeable in this specific area.
