Our group has developed a stand alone webpage that goes on a cd-rom deliverable. Because of the users, the webpage MUST be compatable with Netscape 4.79; they also use Messenger 4.79 as their mail server.

Problem is when we make the cd auto-run launch the webpage, Netscape 4.79 Messenger opens along with the webpage in Navigator. The following 2 error messages also pop up:

    1. D:\HTML\index.html The specified file was not found

    2. Cannot find the file 'D:\HTML\index.html' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

Sometimes the webpage works fine despite the error messages, and sometimes Netscape crashes. We've tried it with Netscape open and closed at start up. These errors only occur for the users whose default email is Netscape Messenger (our primary user base). The errors don't occur in Netscape 6+ or IE (of course).

Is there a way to prevent these errors from occuring? To keep Messenger from opening when trying to access the webpage?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Our programmers have thrown in the towel.

    Thanks,
    Jill

Welcome to the Forum, Jill B

    Hi Jill,

Sorry to leave you hanging for a time. I would have no idea what to tell your programmers, although I can almost imagine their frustration.

Strange that Windows would look for the file on the CD (assuming that D:\ is the CD-ROM Drive) once it autoruns, or is that what you're saying?

I can't help you, but there are Newsgroups where you may get some assistance. Try the snews://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.devs Newsgroups, and there are quite a few.

NOTE: I have edited this post to remove the NG I originally posted, as it seemed to be more or less defunct.

If you are unsuccessful, post back and I'll see what other resources I can find.

    Ramona :D
