I have a friend who is running Windows 98 SE.

When he tries opening a file such as a .jpg or any other his Microsoft Excel program take over and tries opening it.

He has no option on changing the "Open With" and I can't remember how to get around this as it's been quite awhile since I have used Windows 98.

Any help sure would be appreciated.

I just did a search and found this clue to change that file association. Try this:

"Click on the file to highlight it, then hold down the Shift key and right click on the file, choose Open with... from the menu, choose the prog from the list, checkmark Always use this program to open this type of file. "

Let us know if this works for you. Or not.

    :)

Great! Thanks for posting back. It took me 15 minutes to find that tip!!! I couldn't remember if it was the CTRL key or SHIFT key. It was driving me nuts! I wrote that tip down this time, in my TIP book. It's getting pretty full, but worth all the pencil lead it takes to write them down! :D

Keep coming back. You'll learn a lot from this board.

    :)

You can also change the file association with JPG's (or any other file type) by going to Tools - Folder Options in Windows Explorer, click the File Types tab. Scroll through the list and highlight the file type you want to modify and click the Change button. Find the program you want that file type to be opened with and all will be good. This way you want have to mess with always holding shift and selecting "Open with... "
