When one holds down shift key and right clicks a file, the "open With" window is presented. How is this developed? Seems it would be helpful when replying to posts to know what applications the poster has. If he could be told how to "send" the "open with" to us, we could better help him.

    Hi, Morse ~

These are actually held in the registry. They could simply import them from

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell\openas\command\

into Notepad, then copy & paste them here if need be, but that would be a lengthy list in most cases. :)

Bruce: yes I saw that but---
I gess I failed to properly explain what I am looking for. People sometimes ask questions about their system. To answer them, we need to know what applications they have available. But this is going to be done by beginners. And they need a simple way of conveying to others what apps they have available. The shift-right click is one way to get them. But they cannot "SEND" that to others. There needs to be a simple way to send a list of system apps to others. I saw it once but don't remember how I did it. A way similar to the way that MSCONFIG lists the startup files.

    Hi, Morse ~

I believe you still haven't explained what meaning you are intending to convey. Shift+right clicking does nothing more than show what executables are available with which to open files, whether cached for the context menu or via 'Browse...', nothing more.

This would not help any beginner. MSCONFIG is not that good either as many items are either listed but dead or are hidden.

I think what you may mean is something like StartupList which is used here in the course of diagnosing issues as well as other forums in determining what apps are running at startup or in the background - is this correct?

Download it and run it - you may be surprised! ;)

    ZoneAlarm

This is the best way I have found to get a brief listing.

You get this by running RegCleaner :

    RegCleaner http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml

In RegCleaner click Uninstall menu then while on screen do a Ctrl S to save to a text file. Then from the text file you can copy/paste as I did above. Similar to StartUpList.

Or for even more get AiDa:
