I have a computer which has open ports. They are 608, 1181, 1182, 1183, 1185. The ISP has disconnected the computer until I can close the ports. How do i do this?

Do you have a software Firewall?

What OS are you running? If it's XP, the Firewall included with it is not a very good one, so I hear from many users.

Zone Alarm, Sygate, or Kerio. Any of those are good Firewalls.

Those ports are open because you have a program opening them. Most likely a trojan type virus or something else you may be running, like a P2P file sharing program.
I would recommend an online scanner, but I can offer you these.
    Ad-Aware
    AVG AV for free
    F-Prot AV scan for dos
    SpyBot Search & Destroy
A firewall as recommended above will be a big help. You will know exactly what is opening the ports and soliciting attention from the entire internet.

here are two trojans that are known to run on port 1183....

    Cyn

    SweetHeart

you might also want to consider a free trial version of a good anti-trojan tool, like TrojanHunter

download and install it and scan your entire system.

    good luck

    :)

Thanks for all the responses - took the "easy" way out and reformatted the hard drive. Am up & running with Norton and Zone Alarm installed and ISP is happy now
