    Hi there,
A couple of weeks ago something strange started happening.
When ever I'm in a site with one browser window open, and I want to either open a link or picture in a new window, the new window will open, but the window only has a 'boarder', and you can see thru into the previous window, and it doesnt download the link or pic. You have to click on 'stop' and the page turns white and the error 'action cancelled' is displayed, you then have to click on the address bar (where the linked address is displayed) and press 'enter' for the page to load.
This happens either online (Internet) or offline (CDroms).
I have re-installed IE6.0 SP1, also reverted to IE5.5 and also run the repair feature on both these IE's, all of which had no effect.
I did have Panicware Popup Stopper installed and also Zone Alarm, both of which I have uninstalled, which didn't help, then re-installed, which didn't help either.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards Matt

If you are on XP did you run System File Checker before re-installing IE ?

Start > Run > sfc /scannow - you may need your installation CD to hand

Also worth running Spybot followed by AdAware - search the BBS for URL's - I don't have them to hand - and update after downloading.

I am currently searching for a solution to the same problem.... I am running windows 98. I suspect that it's the consequence of a problem registering a dll properly, but which one I'm not to sure.... I just know that the problem wasn't there, then I had a systems crash while installing a piece of software (the error message was "error registering {something}.dll "). Before I could finish reading it, the system reset and the problem manifested in IE. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and uninstalling the relevant software but it made no difference to the problem.

SFC of course reports missing system files or ones where the version number has changed - not system files which have the right version number but corrupted contents.....

    Hi everyone,
Just a quick msg to say that Brett's link had the answers to fix the prob.
It apparently lay in the .dll's.
Unfortunatley, after running thru all the various .dlls, something rendered Norton Systems Works useless, and I wasnt even able to uninstall/reinstall it.
But all is OK now after a quick format/reinstall of windows....I know, this sounds a drastic mesure to take, but after a year of 'tinkering' etc, it was about time anyway.
    So I'm a happy chappie.
    Catch ya!
    Matt
