Have you tried deleting all your temporary internet files including all offline content?

Make sure you have installed all the windows updates.
Make sure show pictures is checked in your internet options.
Also, make sure IE is set as your default browser- I used to have the problem with images when I was also using netscape. I set IE as my default and the problem went away.

What is the exact message (cannot connect?) that you are getting when you try to access certain webpages? It could very well be your cable connection but I'm on dial-up and can't
really help you there. I know that sometimes I dial-up and get a "page cannot be displayed" error on every page I try to access. Usually just closing IE disconnecting and then re-opening IE solves that problem.

I have had this problem ever since I up ( actually, down ) graded from IE 5.5 SP2 to 6.0. Also, half the pages say they cannot be displayed and my connection speed is almost down to half what it was. I've unisnstalled IE one version at a time clear back to the 4.0 I started with and reinstalled IE 5.5 SP2 plus ( since that didn't help ) MS's latest patches and nothing has been fixed. Starting out with one of the earliest versions of 98, I have fixed many, many problems just by scouring help boards but this one has me baffled. I've tried every reasonable suggestion I've seen on boards and the MS site. Would really appreciate hearing about any new suggestions. The version of 98 I have is way to buggy to consider reinstalling it and I have tons of downloaded programs that I no longer have the installers for ( I always keep them now ) besides all the tons of personal settings that I would lose. Thanks in advance for any new advice!

Are you using a firewall? If so, that may be causing the problem.
Are you accessing the sites by typing them in the address bar or by selecting them from your favorites? I've seen several people having this problem when accessing sites from their favorites list.
What are your security set to in IE?-
You could try downloading and running Spybot or Ad-Aware- maybe there's some nasty spyware giving you problems.
Are you using dial-up or cable connection?
Unfortunately it is one of those problems that's hard to pinpoint.
I occassionally get the "this page cannot be displayed" error. Sometimes the server is actually down and other times I just close IE, disconnect, and then reconnect and the problem is gone.

Only portion of images show when useing IE

    Jazcan & BVN,
Thank you for your advice on this problem. At times ANY web page I go to says CAN NOT CONNECT WITH SERVER, pictures will not upload to church webpage, only part of images read, 365 audio player malfunctions. I have learned Jazcan since last post I can turn cable server off for a bit & then back on made NO improvement. Here is something I have done this BVN. Turned computer off for a short then back on & problems solved temporally. I believe this it is NOT in the ISP but in the Windows XP. Here is something else I have done that is interesting & I believe shows it probably is in the XP. I have old computer which has Windows 98 & IE 6 & Outlook 6 which I hooked up this week. Same ISP, monitor, web pages with NO PROBLEMS.
What got me scratching my head is @ first NO problems & then problems developed later I am beginning to wonder if the problems might not lie in the Windows Updates
In new computer running Windows XP Pro, P4 1.8, 525 RAM, hard drive 55.9 GB free 46.2 GB

Now that I finally figured out how to get back on here. I always delete cookies and temp IE files every time I shut down - guess they wanted the cookie. Thanks for the responses.
Jazcan - Have tried turning off Zone Alarm and run Ad-Aware all the time. Use favorites but most windows are opened by linking from them. I often have many windows open at a time though that doesn't seem to matter regarding the problem. I tried pasting addresses in with no change. I am on dial-up, security settings are default.
Nickhm - I've also found that my access is fine for around 30 minutes after first turning on my machine. However, since I'm running 98 and this problem definitely started after installing IE and Outlook 6.0 ( and nothing else ) I gotta believe it's a .dll in there or something that it did. Interesting to find out that you have the problem on XP. I'd be interested in knowing if the versions and updates to 6.0 are exactly the same on your XP and the 98 that you tried without the problem.
    Thanks again!

Jazcan , bvn & anyone having Internet Explorer problems.

    Repairing Internet Explorer.

This is an email which I received from MSN Support in reply to a question I submitted to them of how to Repair Internet Explorer .

I tried this on my Windows XP PRO & Internet Explorer 6 & it fixed it finally. I thought I had tried it all & was about to give up. I advise you to save a copy of this....

Nickhm, to resolve the issue, let us try repairing your Internet Explorer with
    the following:

    Window 2000 & 9X:
    1. Click the "Start" button, point to "Settings ", and click "Control Panel ".
    2. Double-click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.
    3. Select "Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools ".
    4. Click the "Add/Remove" button.
    5. Select the "Repair Internet Explorer" check box.
    6. Click "OK ".
    7. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the repair.

    Windows XP:
    1. From the desktop screen left click on Start
    2. Then left click on Control Panel
    3. From Classic View select Add/Remove Programs
    4. Once Add/Remove Programs is Open click the Windows Components button
    5. Then highlight Internet Explorer and click Next
    6. Let the bar finish. Click next.
    7. Click Finish and it is suggested to reboot.

The above information would resolve your issue. However, if your issue persists
or if you have other concerns, please feel free to contact us again and we would
be glad to assist you further.

    Have a nice day!

    Thanks Nickhm,

Here we were trying to help you and you came across the solution through other means. I knew how to repair IE6 in windows 98se but I thought it was more complicated for XP.
Glad to hear everything is working well! There are several other threads regarding IE6 in winxp so hopefully this solution will help others out there having problems too.:)
