I've got a descent used computer I'm trying to get going so I can use out in my garage and watch Launch.com videos on my 19" TV while I'm piddling around.

It's got a 900 MG microprocessor and the plan was to install as much memory as the motherboard slots will allow. Like 256 MB and run Windows XP on it.

If it were not for the 30 days activation issue with Windows XP, I wouldn't be asking this question so I've been loading Windows 98 SE. I'll figure it out one of these days but I don't want to get kicked off this forum by asking a crack question.

I also want to use a RAGE 128 VGA card which has an RCA output. I got both 98 and XP drivers for that card. Forgive me for not using the correct terminology but it's the type that fits in the brown slot not the PCI slot.

OK Windows 98 SE won't recognize the current VGA and audio on the motherboard. Windows is calling the microprocessor as an AuthenticAMD 900.

Normally when I have a component that fits in a PCI slot that Windows doesn't recognize I pull it and find out who makes and it look for drivers that way.

On my wife's Dell when I installed Windows XP I was able to just goto Dell's website and enter the model number and download each driver that way.

But with this motherboard, I have no idea how to identify the VGA or audio components. Under the hardware manager it's not telling me who makes them so I don't know where to goto from there.

I have no idea who even made this computer. It just says "AMD DURON" on the casing. I don't know if that's just the name of the microprocessor or the motherboard itself.

The other alternative was to just install the RAGE 128 VGA card and another audio card in the slots. But that doesn't work. When I install the VGA card, the computer won't boot.

I went into the BIOS and tried to see if I could disable these on the motherboard but with no luck.

So what would I do in a situation like this?

    This might Help:

    http://www.oldversion.com/

Look under "Utilities " for Everest Home Edition. There are four to select from. I use v1.51 because it has more available info.

    By the way

I just installed Windows XP on this machine and the activation went through! It had failed like 5 times prior saying I had used my copy one too many times. I'm not sure what's up with that but I've seen it happen before on an old Dell. It failed several times then all of a sudden it worked.

It's like the activation will sneak through every now and then for whatever reason.
