I have OmniPage Pro 12 on my computer. I had the CD, but I have misplaced it somewhere. My copy is registered with Caere, but I am afraid they will charge me an arm and leg, or tell me to upgrade if I ask for a copy. I wanted to check with you guys and girls first.

My question is this; Can I copy the Pro 12 which is already on my hard drive to a blank CD so I can have a backup copy? I am scared that I may need to format my hard drive someday, and I will not have my original disk of the OmniPage Pro 12. If so how do I go about doing it??

    Thanks in advance!!

Unfortunately the answer is No :( - If you downloaded the installation files to disk over the net then that is another matter, but you state that you had a CD.

When a program is installed the bulk of it will go into a directory specific to that program, but many files will be loaded into the Windows directory - library files, for example and multiple entries will be made in the registry. Where the files are loaded to is controlled by the installer, generally Windows Installer which is configured by the program software prior to installation. Simply copying the entry in Program files will not work.

Thank you PeteC. I was afraid of that. I will just have to go out and buy the upgrade.

    Thanks you very much!

Could you locate your payment, possible a canceled check or a credit card charge. Providing payment information along with your ability to prove you have registered your copy with Caere may be enough for customer service to provide a replacement disk. Let us know how 'accommodating" Caere customer service is. Always a good thing to know when any of us are looking to make software purchases. Good Luck.

I will give Caere, which is now Nuance a e-mail and see what happens. I don't have my receipt, but I know that I registered it when I made the purchase. I will advise.

    Thanks for your reply.

I called Nuance (Caere) today about my replacement CD for OmiPage Pro 12. Telephone# 800-654-1187. They needed my serial number off my program so that they would send the correct one.You can find S/N by going to the tool bar help>about Omni Pro..
They are sending me a replacement for $25.00 + $5.00 for Shipping.
Their hours of operation are M-F 9:00am-6:00pm(Eastern time))I Didn't think $30.00 was bad for my mistake. It beats $100.00 plus! Thank you again for your help!!!

Just wondering, as I have Omni on my desktop.
I have something called Caere in my folders and I thought that was for my
Canon Flat top scanner, which I no longer use.

I removed Omni once, but it came back again.
    What is Omni for?

Omnipage is OCR (Optical Character Recognition) scanning software which enables you to scan a text document and then edit it.

Normal scanning simply produces an image of the document which is not editable.
