My mother-in-law is having a problem downloading photos from her Olympus D-360L camera by way of a cable. She has done it many times before, but now it won't work. She gets the following message:

Cannot connect to camera. Please confirm or try the following.
    1. The camera is plugged in and power is on.
    2. Change port setting.
    3. Lower communication speed.
    4. Camera's mode dial is set to outer connection mode.

She has checked for #1, and got instructions as to how to do #2, but is afraid to try that, as it is a LONG, complicated set of instructions, apparently. (She isn't very knowledgable about computers, and neither am I in that area.) She doesn't know what the other two mean. She is in WY and I am in MN, so I can't see what's happening to try to help her. SO...I thought someone might be able to suggest something to help her out. She has a Compaq MV 520 computer and is running Windows 98. She has contacted the Olympus website for help (where she got the instructions to change port settings), but even with the help of friends, she's gotten nowhere. They have tried reinstalling the camera's software, and have disconnected and reconnected the cable...still nothing changes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance, and I hope I've gotten enough information from her for you to use to help.

    THANKS!!!
    Barb

Admittedly, I'm no expert in Olympus cameras, however, you may have some success by trying the following. Here we go.......

Turn off your camera and make sure it is unplugged from your computer's USB. Remove the smart card. Reinstall the smart card. Turn your camera back on. Reboot your computer with the camera disconnected. Turn your camera off and re-connect it to the computer. Turn your camera on and try downloading your pictures.

If this doesn't work, I'll shut up and stick to things I am more familiar with.

    ;)
