I've been running XP Home and XP Office Pro for a month now (just built this PC)- no problems. I shut the system down last night - nothing special, no new downloads or software. I fire it up today and the thing is wigged out (Outlook program screen was flickering, etc) . I did the 'repair' of the OFFICE program. But afterward, I got the 'OLE Registration error occured'. I first got this error when trying to send an e-mail in Outlook.

If anyone can help me in this regard, I'd be most appreciative. One other thing, I read somewhere to back up my (limited) Outlook files to the file outlook.pst. But, after doing a file search for that name on my PC, nothing was returned.

(by the way, before starting the thread I searched 'OLE' and 'OLE registration' and nothing.)

You will need to have Windows Explorer set to show hidden files and set to not hide system files for it to find outlook.pst for you.

The suggestion should have been to save a copy of outlook.pst under another name just for safety. Unlike Outlook Express where you have lots of .dbx files for your mail stores etc., Outlook stuffs everything into that one .pst file.

First thing to try is to click on start, on run, key in
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
and click OK. Let the System File Checker locate and replace any damaged or missing XP system files.

If that fails to cure your problem, Click Here and see if any of these articles offer any help.

    OLE issue, 2003: Newt

Newt, the other advice I referred to in my original post DID advise renaming the file, it was my bad for not including that in my post.

I already scoured the hyperlink page(s) you provided and NOTHING (which I found hard to believe).

I'm running the scan now, but when it first went to do it, it asked me to insert my windows xp pro disk. I have Office XP pro, but XP Home (that is the disk it is scanning now. Not sure why/how it asked for XP Pro)

If SFC is happy with your XP-home CD then it's a mystery to me as well but nothing to worry about.

Hopefully (and especially since none of the usual office-related causes seem to apply) the SFC scan will get you back in business. If not, there are some other options but none that are nearly this easy.
