now surfacing on XP Pro Embedded. Long drawn out procedure, but I have to install drivers for a 3Com Secure Fiber Optics NIC. Obviously can't do with the card installed. Have to do it over a network before the card install. These are Thin Clients - no drives or moving parts of any sort - 64Meg of Administrator allowable write cache - if the SysAdmin don't allow it, it's gone with the next boot.
Been transferring drivers & some small utilities with a USB stick. Roughly 90% OK - the other 10% is a real PIA. Get the old DOS error - 'corrupt directory'. Can't delete it, 0 length file/folder, no reference to it in the registry. I can't release the machine for shipment like this. Luckily this year HP has been kind enough to include a utility that will copy the embedded image and allow you to re-image the flash, other wise I would have tossed 12-15 units in the trash. We can't RMA them after we start 'redesigning' them. I can reflash them, but it takes 17 to 22 minutes per unit - unacceptable with 800+ units and the time constraints that have been tossed on us.
How does one delete the corrupt folder? The only difference with this and the DOS error is that I can rename this folder - still can't delete it tho...
I could go into further detail about deletion attempts, but unless you understood thin clients and saving templates & Electronic Write Filters, this would turn into a book......
Once the machine is up and running, it's just like a 'normal' computer...
There has to be a simple way to delete these bad folders......

Did you try "rmdir /s /q c:\foldername "? This is a dos command to delete a folder and all it's contents, including subfolders.

Sorry it took so long to get back - son had some car problems.

I will give that command a try. Kinda moot now as the engineer in charge of the program now tells me that it doesn't matter what is on the machine, the customer is going to re flash the system when they get it.
Wasted a lot of time, but I'll still give it a try....
