Friend has winXP pro and an XP1120 printer. Has been printing happily until the other day when it appeared OFFLINE in the printer list.

    I can't 'safely uninstall'......Access denied.
    Can't delete the 4 files in it's queue.....access denied.
No lights on the printer, yet it's plugged to an active UPS port. USB cable firmly installed.

Not sure what to try next. Any help will be appreciated.

When you turn the printer on, does it power up ?

Who is the manufacture of the printer ?

I tried to google the XP1120 , XP 1120 and just 1120 Printer and came up with numerous manufactures

Printer has no lights on, even though it's plugged into a valid power port & the USB cable is connected to both the printer and the Processor.

    Sorry it's an HP1022.

Check to make sure the power switch (which is above where the power cord plugs into the printer) is on.

    Try a different power cord.

I had the same problem with my old reliable HP Deskjet 6122 so I unpluged everything. The surge protector, the power supply, the cable that went into the printer, I mean I checked everything even the wall socket and then worked back to installing everything that worked. Restarted the computer then went into control panel and right click on the printer that is your default printer and printed a test page and it worked.
    Hope this helped you.

It should not uninstall the printer if it runs out of paper. Maybe part of the program didn't install correctly. The program designed to tell you the tray is empty.

Step one to problem solving. Break the problem down into parts. Then solve those little parts one at a time.

For example, all decent printers have a self test. Disconnect all but AC power. Follow directions in the manual for self test. Often something like "hold down the X button while turning on power ". What does the self test report.

Notice step one. Remove USB cable, computer, driver, and how many other things. Only look at one thing - the printer and its self test. Only move on to other problems long after that self test passes.

Currently you are completely confused because the problem was not broken down into parts - then solved one step at a time.

You were correct, my pal tells me the power switch just over the power cord had been turned off.

    We're both embarrassed. Thanks.

Don't be. Things like this happen.
Sometimes, all it takes is a suggestion of what to check.

    Glad I could help
