I am trying to install SP1 and am getting the following error:

Error 1328. Error applying patch to file
    C:\Config.msi\PT1EC.tmp. It has probably been
updated by other means, and can no longer be modified
by this patch. For more information contact your patch vendor.

Can someone help me out here? TIA.

I think this is configuration data for the installer. Since it´s a *.tmp file causing the trouble, I´d try renaming it *.xyz and try installing SP1 again. If it works, then delete the renamed file. Renaming it is just a precausion since some applications actually need their *.tmp files and if that should be the case, You can undo the renaming.

I almost thought so, I´ve got Office XP Pro installed on Windows XP Pro and I have no such folder or file.

Have You tried to download the Service Pack to Your HardDisk and install it from there or have You taken the automatic install option?

Whichever it is, try the other one.

Thanks, that got it. I guess I need to use the service point for all my updates.

    I'm working on SP-2 now.
